The Problem.
TRC had an IT system in place that had not been changed since the company began trading. They were having problems with their server, experiencing slow file transfers, inconsistent backups and application crashes. They were also looking for a company website to give them
Problem Solved.
We provided TRC with a brand new server running Linux. We added a custom backup solution with a web front-end, remote monitoring and error reporting to the server, before performing extensive testing then installation. The new server did not change the way the staff at TRC worked, they still use their Windows® workstations as before, only they can access their files and work much faster. The new server was built, customised, tested and installed for less than the price of a new PC. We also provided TRC with a simple company website, from the design and layout to the hosting and domain name, giving them a web presence for their clients to contact them.

The Problem.
White Rose Conferences (WRC) were frustrated with the level of IT support they were receiving. Taking over four days per call out, their current support company came out to fix the same PC four times; in the end costing more than the cost of a brand new PC.
Problem Solved.
Whilst visiting WRC to carry out a full audit, we were made aware of the problem and how it was affecting their work. We ran extensive tests on the problem PC, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it the same day. WRC were so impressed with our service that they now continue to use Xenet for their IT support.

The Problem.
Rebus purchased a CRM solution (SugarCRM) from a third party vendor but were not supplied with any documentation. They were extremely frustrated at not being able to install and configure their new software so came to us for help.
Problem Solved.
We installed and configured the software and provided a short training session. We then provided telephone and email support while the staff gained experience with the product.

BG Controls.

The Problem.
BG Controls were expanding and their current IT infrastructure was showing signs of strain. Many of the issues they were facing were common complaints such as SPAM causing problems with day to day activities, reliability issues, and security.
Problem Solved
Reliability issues can be caused by numerous factors. In this case the server and its software was inadequate to support the number of users and the tasks that needed to be done. BG were reluctant to upgrade to the latest Microsoft solution because of the initial expense and ongoing costs that would be incurred as the company was rapidly expanding.
Fortunately we at Xenet were able to demonstrate a Linux server and show that there is an alternative to the common products and solutions sold by many vendors. The server better suited BG Controls current and future plans, not to mention our solution was much cheaper than the cost of a comparable Microsoft solution, highly reliable, and very secure. Because of the nature of the software we use we were also able to include a custom backup solution and server monitoring system for BG Controls that will automatically notify the relevant staff of failed/successful backups, and send alerts about threats before they cause errors or problems.
Looking at the SPAM and security issues a common solution to deal with SPAM in a large company is to run your own email server. BG had no need to and didn't want to run their own email server, why pay for more hardware and support when you already have a perfectly good external email server? At Xenet we are always conscious of price vs performance and try to avoid solutions that are complicated to maintain for the clients and that incur ongoing costs. Installing SPAM filtering software on each of the client machines would have been a viable solution. But ...
- It doesn't scale well, you have to pay for a licence for each machine.
- If you add more machines later on you have to pay for more licenses which need re-newing on different dates.
- Requires lots of maintenance. Every action or change required has to be performed on all machines.
- It's difficult to check all machines actually have the software installed.
We decided to use Open Source software that allowed us to scan all incoming email for SPAM and viruses from just one computer. This eliminated the need to pay for and track many licences, reduced the maintenance to just one computer and the software was also free!
The same computer used for SPAM/virus filtering was also used to provide a firewall for the company. Using Open Source software we were able to provide an enterprise class firewall without the enterprise class price tag. Not to mention including many added features such as VPN capability and intrusion detection.
Seeing the clear benefit that Open Source software provided, BG Controls decided to look at other alternatives for software they were currenty using. We were able to replace several software packages with Open Source alternatives including, but not limited to, anti-virus software and PDF writing software. This meant less licences to pay for and monitor. When you multiply that by the number of computers, the savings really started to add up.
Conclusion.
This solution allowed BG to expand their business and add workstations as needed without incurring further costs. To add a workstation they have no need to purchase extra licenses, pay for separate anti-virus or SPAM software as it is already provided. Because of the choice of server software they aren't tied down in anyway and the software can be completely customised and added to as the company requires more features.
